Consider the Lobster Booklet
Book Layout · Editorial Design · Publications
I designed a booklet for "Consider the Lobster," an essay by David Foster Wallace that explores the ethical implications of how lobsters are treated at the Maine Lobster Festival. The essay begins with a light, observational tone as it sets the scene, but gradually shifts into a deeper philosophical and scientific inquiry—raising uncomfortable questions about animal consciousness and the likelihood that lobsters experience pain when boiled alive. This tonal progression is reflected in the booklet’s design, with increasingly prominent callouts and visual cues that echo the essay’s shift from casual reportage to moral confrontation.
