"Salt" Frame-by-frame Animation

Using the simple animation tools in Procreate, I created a short music video set to the song "Salt" by Alex G. The somber, repetitive quality of the melody lent itself well to looping animations, which I played forward and in reverse to mirror the cyclical nature of the song. The lyrics—open to interpretations ranging from dissociation and depression to trauma or substance use—inspired me to keep the visuals intentionally ambiguous. This approach allows each viewer to find their own meaning in the piece, reflecting the song’s emotional complexity.

I created a short animation to the song "Salt" by Alex G using simple watercolor paintings that I photographed over time. This project was an experiment in exploring how watercolor could be used in animation—specifically, how the medium evolves as layers are added and colors deepen. By capturing each stage of the painting process, I was able to emphasize the natural transitions and texture of watercolor. I then composited the images in Adobe Premiere to bring the sequence to life.
